“Despair, or folly?” said Gandalf. “It is not despair, for despair is only for those who see the end beyond all doubt.  We do not.”
LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring

“To me, it means loving life more, being more aware of life, of one’s fellow human beings, of the earth. It means obliterating, in a curious but real way, the ideas of evil and hate and the enemy, and transmuting them, with the alchemy of suffering, into ideas of clarity and charity. ... It means caring more about God.” (Frances Gunther; Death Be Not Proud)

I honestly find that the best "definition" of God ... thus far, I mean ... if that it can be defined.  Eitherway Gunther sounds rather Buddhist for an early 20th century Mom.  :)
